A threat against schools in Coos County on Friday prompted law enforcement agencies and school administrators to take precautions, but the threat doesn’t seem credible, says Sheriff Craig Zanni.

According to a news release from the sheriff’s office, “At about 7:38 a.m. (Friday), Coos County 911 Center received a report from a subject who advised that they had seen information circulating on one of the same websites that the subject in yesterday’s shooting incident at Umpqua Community College had been posting on that there would be a similar incident in Coos County today…

COQUILLE — An Oregon Department of Transportation official said Highway 42 South likely would remain closed through much of Monday after a weekend of heavy rain and flooding that left at least one driver stranded.

Jared Castle, ODOT spokesman, said plow and sweeper trucks still need to remove debris from the road, while engineers need to rule out the presence of sinkholes before the road can be reopened.

Reedsport Tree of Giving Deadline – Monday

Reedsport’s local Tree of Giving program has families signed up and ready to be adopted. Any business, service group, church, or individuals who would like to buy gifts for all the children in one family can sign up or get more information by calling The Family Resource Center at 541 271-9700.

Tags for individual children are still available at Bank of America, Umpqua Bank, First Community Credit Union, and Ace Hardware.

Stop in, choose a tag, and purchase a new gift for that child based on suggestions listed on their tag. Unwrapped gifts must be returned to one of the tag distribution locations no later than Dec. 14 at the close of business.

With your help Tree of Giving supplies gifts for approximately 200 children in our community whose families need a little help during the holidays.

JOB SUMMARY:
